Egypt water resource modernization and digital transition
Overview
Egypt is pursuing a modernization of its water management through digital transformation and infrastructure development. Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Souleym (also referred to as Hani Sewilam) recently visited Japan to study integrated digital-based networks, including AI-driven decision support and remote monitoring systems used in the Tone River management system.
Building on these objectives, the Ministry is advancing its ‘Water System 2.0’ goals by implementing digital twin technology. A pilot project involving a telemetry network is being launched for the Ismailia Canal to create real-time digital models for improved water distribution and monitoring.
Parallel to these technological shifts, the Ministry is exploring the ‘National Project for Regulating the Nile River,’ which includes proposals to develop Nile waterfronts with walkways to enhance tourism and urban areas while maintaining the river’s hydraulic stability.
