Egypt coordinates with Tunisia and US on Libyan political stability

Egypt is coordinating with regional and international partners to support the political stability and sovereignty of Libya. During a meeting in Cairo, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti emphasized the “imperative” of preserving Libya’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity while safeguarding its national institutions.

The two ministers called for a comprehensive political solution led by Libyans, specifically advocating for the simultaneous holding of presidential and legislative elections. Abdelatty also stressed the importance of maintaining close coordination between Egypt, Tunisia, and Algeria through the tripartite mechanism of Libya’s neighboring countries to restore security and stability.

In a separate development, Minister Abdelatty held a telephone discussion with Massad Boulos, a senior advisor to the United States President for Arab and African affairs. The conversation focused on initiatives to advance the political process and overcome the ongoing divisions within Libya. Egypt reiterated that the political process must remain “purely Libyan” to ensure a lasting solution that reflects the will of the Libyan people.
