Egypt expands agricultural and water management cooperation with China and Mongolia
Egypt is expanding its international agricultural and resource management partnerships through new agreements with China and Mongolia.
In a meeting with a delegation from China’s Institute for the Control of Agrochemicals, Ministry of Agriculture (ICAMA), Egyptian officials discussed modernizing pesticide management. The cooperation aims to transfer Chinese technology to Egypt to facilitate the local manufacture of high-quality pesticides, reducing import dependency and enhancing food security. A proposed memorandum of understanding will establish a framework for technical exchange, research, and the training of young engineers in integrated pest management.
Separately, during the UNCCD COP17 in Ulaanbaatar, Egypt’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Hani Sweilam, met with Mongolia’s Minister of Food, Agriculture, and Light Industry, Tsagankhuu Erdenebat. The discussions focused on water resource management and modern irrigation techniques to combat water scarcity and climate change. Egypt shared its vision for a second-generation water management system that integrates engineering and technological solutions to improve water use efficiency in the agricultural sector.
