Egypt experiences record high temperatures across the country

The Egyptian Meteorological Authority forecast a heat wave on Friday, 7 August 2026, with temperatures soaring across the nation. In the capital region, Cairo recorded a maximum of 36 °C and a felt temperature of 38 °C, while the new administrative capital saw similar highs.

Southern governorates faced the most extreme heat: Aswan reached a maximum of 43 °C (felt 44 °C), Luxor 42 °C, and both Sohag and Qena hit 40 °C. Other southern cities such as Minya, Asyut, and Fayoum recorded highs between 38 °C and 39 °C. Coastal and northern cities remained cooler but still hot, with Alexandria at 31 °C and the Red Sea resorts like Sharm El‑Sheikh and Hurghada topping out at 39 °C.

Overall, the forecast indicated a continuation of unusually high temperatures, especially in Upper Egypt, prompting concerns about heat‑related health risks and the need for precautionary measures.
