Egypt plans logistics hub to link Russia and Africa
Egypt is studying the development of a major logistics hub for grains and vegetable oils to serve as a trade gateway between Russia and the African continent. During the Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum in Moscow, Supply Minister Sherif Farouk announced that feasibility studies are underway to integrate trading, storage, and food processing activities within this hub.
The project seeks to attract investment and expertise from BRICS nations to strengthen regional food supply chains and expand Egyptian exports to the Russian market. Minister Farouk noted that while the Suez Canal Economic Zone is a key area of interest, investment opportunities extend to various locations across Egypt based on proximity to ports and suppliers.
In a separate industrial push, Egypt is also implementing a strategy to expand manufacturing partnerships across Africa. This initiative targets seven priority industries, including pharmaceuticals and agribusiness, to integrate into global supply chains and increase regional value-added production. The government aims to work with Afreximbank and the African Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat to finance and advance these cross-border manufacturing projects.
