Egypt extends deadline for building violation reconciliation
The Egyptian Cabinet has approved a decision to extend the deadline for submitting reconciliation requests regarding certain building violations. The six-month extension is set to begin on November 5, 2026.
Members of the House of Representatives and local development experts have welcomed the move, noting it provides a vital opportunity for citizens to legalize their property status. MP Mokhtar Hammam, Deputy Head of the Housing Committee, emphasized that the extension reflects the government's recognition of the high demand for reconciliation and aims to regulate the urban landscape. However, he called for the simplification of administrative procedures, faster processing of applications, and the introduction of a new reconciliation law to resolve long-standing issues such as building outside urban boundaries.
MP Naglaa El-Assaily cautioned that the extension should not be viewed as a license to continue new violations, particularly on agricultural land, which is critical for national food security. She urged citizens to complete their documentation promptly. Local development expert Karim Salem also highlighted the importance of ensuring structural safety and advised citizens to consult local technological centers to ensure all required documents and fees are correctly submitted.
