Egypt faces heatwave with temperatures up to 42°C and high humidity

The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) has warned of a heat wave stretching from Saturday through Wednesday. Daytime temperatures will be very hot and humid across the country, with maximum readings of 35‑36 °C in Greater Cairo and the Nile Delta and perceived temperatures ("heat index") of 37‑38 °C due to humidity. The northern coast will see highs of 30‑31 °C, while Upper Egypt will reach 37 °C and southern Upper Egypt 41‑42 °C, the perceived temperature rising by two to four degrees.

Fog may form between 4 am and 8 am, becoming dense on some roads in northern Egypt, Greater Cairo, the Suez Canal cities, central Sinai and northern Upper Egypt. Intermittent wind gusts of 30‑40 km/h are expected to provide occasional relief. The EMA advises citizens to avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours (12 pm‑4 pm), stay hydrated, wear loose‑fitting light clothing, use hats and curtains, and limit outdoor activity, especially as humidity will increase the feeling of heat.

Earlier forecasts for Friday and Saturday also warned of hot, humid conditions, with perceived temperatures in Cairo around 37 °C and in southern Upper Egypt reaching 40‑43 °C, and a chance of light drizzle or mist in scattered coastal and inland areas.
