Egypt heatwave peaks with temperatures reaching up to 45°C

A severe heatwave is gripping Egypt, driven by an Indian monsoon low and a high‑altitude ridge that push temperatures above seasonal norms. The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) expects peak temperatures of 39 °C in Greater Cairo, feeling like 41 °C, while Aswan recorded a maximum of 45 °C. Humidity raises perceived heat by 2–4 °C, with temperatures feeling up to 44 °C in Upper Egypt. Forecasts show the wave persisting for the next 48 hours, with fog forming early mornings from northern Egypt to Cairo and intermittent winds of 30‑35 km/h that modestly moderate night‑time heat. Sea conditions along the Mediterranean coast are expected to produce waves 1.5‑2.5 m high. Authorities have issued public‑health warnings: avoid direct sun between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., stay hydrated, wear light cotton clothing, and keep children, the elderly, and outdoor workers especially careful. Agricultural experts advise adjusting irrigation schedules, using early‑morning or evening watering, and applying potassium‑magnesium fertilizers to protect vulnerable crops such as mangoes, pomegranates, and tomatoes.
