Heatwave pushes temperatures above 40°C in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Morocco

Meteorological services across North Africa and the Arabian Peninsula warned of a regional heatwave in late June 2026. In Egypt, forecasts for June 24‑25 predicted daytime highs reaching 40‑41 °C in several governorates, with humidity‑enhanced heat and occasional fog reducing visibility on major routes. Wind speeds of 30‑45 km/h were expected along the Mediterranean and Red Sea coasts, with moderate sea‑state conditions.

Saudi Arabia’s national centre reported extreme heat especially in the eastern province, where Dammam was expected to hit 47 °C and nearby cities such as Buraidah up to 46 °C. Isolated thunderstorms with strong winds were forecast for Jazan, Asir and parts of Mecca province.

Morocco’s weather agency forecast hot conditions across the eastern and southeastern regions, with daytime temperatures between 24‑30 °C in the interior and higher values along the Atlantic coast. Localised thunderstorms and occasional hail were expected in the Atlas mountains and coastal zones, accompanied by moderate to strong winds that could stir dust.
