Egypt faces potential fuel price hikes and cooking gas shortages

In Egypt, discussions regarding potential fuel price hikes are intensifying. Hassan Nasr, head of the Petroleum Products Division at the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce, indicated that an increase is expected, with estimates suggesting a rise of between 10% and 15%. He noted that maintaining current prices increases the state's subsidy burden.

In response to rumors circulating on social media, the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources issued a categorical denial regarding any official decision to change fuel prices. The Ministry clarified that the committee responsible for the automatic pricing mechanism has not yet met and that current prices remain in effect. The Ministry also denied reports of cooking gas shortages, stating that refining and distribution processes are operating normally.

However, reports from various governorates indicate growing difficulties for citizens in obtaining cooking gas cylinders. Despite official assurances of steady supply, some residents have reported being forced to purchase cylinders on the black market at prices significantly higher than the government-regulated rate. Local authorities have increased inspections in several governorates to address distribution irregularities and ensure availability.
