Egypt petroleum refining and fuel price management

Overview

Egypt continues to implement strategic measures to manage its petroleum sector and energy security. The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has prioritized increasing domestic refining capacity to lower the national import bill, with the Alexandria National Refining and Petrochemicals Company (ANRPC) meeting over 30% of domestic demand for high-octane gasoline.

As of late August 2026, domestic fuel and petroleum product prices remain stable. Current rates for gasoline are 20.75 EGP for 80-octane, 22.25 EGP for 92-octane, and 24 EGP for 95-octane per liter, while diesel is priced at 20.50 EGP per liter. Cooking gas prices are set at 275 EGP for a 12.5 kg domestic cylinder and 550 EGP for a 25 kg commercial cylinder. Natural gas for vehicles ranges between 10 and 13 EGP per cubic meter.

Prime Minister Madbouly noted that despite significant fluctuations in global oil prices caused by international conflicts, the government aims to “minimize the burden on citizens.” To manage this, the automatic pricing mechanism will be reviewed every three months starting from the first quarter of the new fiscal year. These reviews will evaluate variables including global oil prices, exchange rates, inflation, and import costs to determine if adjustments are necessary.
