Egypt Health Ministry Issues Summer Heat Safety Guidelines

The Ministry of Health and Population warned that rising summer temperatures across Egypt are prompting increased public movement to coastal cities, beaches and outdoor venues. Dr. Hossam Abdelghafar, the ministry’s spokesperson, urged citizens to follow protective measures such as staying hydrated, limiting direct sun exposure, using shade, and seeking medical attention for any heat‑related symptoms.

Health experts also highlighted that high ambient temperatures can compromise the safety and efficacy of many medicines. Exposure to heat accelerates chemical breakdown, especially for liquid formulations and biologics like insulin, rendering them potentially unsafe. They recommended keeping medications out of cars, away from windows, bathrooms and kitchens, storing them in cool, dry places, and regularly inspecting them for discoloration, odor changes, cracking or cloudiness. Any medication showing signs of damage should be discarded and replaced after consulting a pharmacist.
