Egypt highlights 200,000-strong digital workforce at DevOpsDays Cairo

Egypt's Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Raafat Hindi, opened the ninth DevOpsDays Cairo 2026 conference in Giza. During the event, Hindi highlighted that approximately 200,000 Egyptian specialists are currently exporting digital services to global markets, noting that the competence of local developers is a primary strength for the sector.

The conference, themed ‘Sustainable DevOps Methodologies in the Era of Agentic AI,’ focuses on the transition toward autonomous artificial intelligence systems. Hindi addressed the challenges this shift presents, including the need for human oversight, accountability, cybersecurity, and the management of energy and computing resource consumption as AI begins to participate in coding, testing, and decision-making.

To showcase local innovation, the Minister highlighted ‘Karnak,’ the first Egyptian large language model (LLM) developed by local engineers, which can understand both classical and colloquial Egyptian Arabic. Ahmed El-Zaher, CEO of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), noted that the evolution of Agentic AI requires updated governance frameworks and continuous investment in specialized skills to manage systems capable of autonomous task execution.
