Egypt ICT sector grows 19.2% as AI offers economic acceleration potential
Egypt’s Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) reported that the country’s ICT sector has achieved 19.2% growth. At the Techne Summit Alexandria 2026, ITIDA CEO Ahmed Elzaher stated that the government is working to help startups develop, test, and scale AI-enabled products to address real-world challenges in sectors such as healthcare, education, fintech, agriculture, and government services.
McKinsey & Company executives noted that artificial intelligence and the digital economy could allow Egypt to compress decades of economic development into a much shorter timeframe. Tamim Saleh, Senior Partner at McKinsey’s Cairo office, suggested that generative and agentic AI could dramatically improve productivity and change the rules of economic growth. However, he emphasized that capturing this opportunity will require significant investments in energy, connectivity, computing capacity, and new workforce skills.
