Egypt Industry Minister Khalid Hashim promotes textile hub and Greek industrial partnership

Egyptian Industry Minister Khalid Hashim met with Greek Ambassador Nicolas Papagourgiou to discuss expanding industrial cooperation between Egypt and Greece. The talks highlighted investment incentives for Greek firms to set up manufacturing in Egypt and use the country as a platform to export products to African markets, focusing on sectors such as pharmaceuticals, engineering, petro‑chemicals, clean energy and capacity‑building projects. Success stories of Greek companies operating in Egypt, including Titan Cement, Coca‑Cola Hellenic, Alomil and ventures in ship‑waste treatment and advanced medical equipment, were cited as models for further investment.

Later, Minister Hashim visited the Misr Spinning and Weaving Company in Mahalla al‑Kubra, inspecting its massive spinning, weaving, dyeing and garment facilities. The complex, with 2.5 million m² of floor space and a 27 billion‑pound investment, employs about 14 000 people and generates roughly 1.37 billion pounds in annual exports. Hashim emphasized plans to boost production efficiency, reduce water usage, meet international standards and increase local content, positioning the company as a cornerstone of Egypt’s strategy to become a regional hub for textiles and related manufacturing.
