Egypt intensifies market oversight and food safety inspections

Egyptian authorities are intensifying market oversight to ensure the availability of essential goods and protect consumer rights. Ibrahim El-Seginy, head of the Consumer Protection Agency, held a meeting with regional directors to review field inspection results and address market stability. Recent enforcement actions in September included seizing fraudulent coffee products, non-compliant electrical components, and counterfeit automotive oils and food products.

In Qalyubia, Governor Hossam Abdel Fattah conducted inspections in Shubra El Kheima to monitor food safety and price compliance. During these inspections, officials seized herring samples for laboratory testing and destroyed quantities of minced meat, hot dogs, and liver found to be unfit for human consumption. Authorities emphasized a zero-tolerance policy toward price gouging and the sale of unsafe food items.
