Egypt International Airshow features Chinese and U.S. military displays

The Egypt International Airshow 2026 served as a platform for diverse international military powers to demonstrate aerospace capabilities and strengthen strategic ties.

China participated in the event, showcasing four aircraft including the KJ-500 airborne early warning and control aircraft, the YY/YU-20A aerial refuelling tanker, the J-16 fighter jet, and the Z-20K helicopter. This appearance follows the ‘Eagles of Civilisation 2026’ joint air exercises, where Chinese J-16 fighters engaged in air combat drills against Egyptian Dassault Rafale fighters. The Chinese Ministry of National Defense stated the participation aims to “enhance friendly mutual trust and strengthen diversified military cooperation.”

Simultaneously, the United States participated through the Texas Air National Guard and U.S. Air Forces Central. U.S. representatives highlighted the importance of interoperability and collective air power, providing static displays of the C-130J Super Hercules to international delegations. The U.S. presence focused on reinforcing commitments to security and stability within the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility.
