Egypt launches €45 million green industry fund and smart power plan for data centers

Egypt’s Ministry of Local Development and Environment, led by Dr. Manal Awad, signed a credit‑facilitation agreement worth €45 million to fund the Green Sustainable Industry (GSI) programme. The deal, concluded with the European Investment Bank, the EU and the French Development Agency, aims to help Egyptian factories adopt lower‑emission, resource‑efficient production methods and to meet the country’s 2030 sustainability targets.

In a related initiative, Dr. Mahmoud Assem, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, signed a memorandum of understanding between the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company and Heca Data. The MoU sets out a study of the electricity needs for a new data‑center complex, covering grid connection, load forecasts, renewable‑energy integration and storage solutions, in line with Egypt’s plan to localise high‑tech infrastructure and increase the share of renewables to 45 % of the power mix within two years.
