2026 Global storage, solar, wind expansion
Overview
July 4 – Egypt received the first €1.5 billion installment of the EU’s €7.4 billion macro‑financial package for wind, solar, storage and green‑hydrogen projects.
July 8 – NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd commissioned a 50.4 MW wind farm in Gujarat, India, and launched a ₹2,500 crore debenture to fund further renewable expansion.
July 13 – Egypt’s parliament approved 30 articles redefining the Future Egypt agency, granting its head ministerial powers, outlining capital structure and financing sources, and strengthening parliamentary and audit oversight. The same day GIGA Storage secured €450 million to build the 700 MW/2,800 MWh Green Turtle battery in Belgium, with Tesla as EPC partner.
July 14 – The EU signed its first three‑party energy‑storage pact, committing member states to raise stored capacity from roughly 55 GW to about 200 GW by 2030, with an interim addition of 30–35 GW by 2028. Hungary pledged 700 MW of new storage by 2028. The agreement targets a surge in commercial‑ and industrial‑scale batteries and aims to smooth renewable intermittency, cut reliance on gas‑fired plants and stabilise electricity prices.
These coordinated actions across Europe, Africa and Asia illustrate a 2026 push to expand utility‑scale renewable generation and storage, backed by public financing, legislative reforms and cross‑border agreements.
