Egypt launches Unified Card 2026 project for digital services
Egypt is implementing the Unified Card 2026 project as part of a national digital transformation strategy. The initiative aims to consolidate various government, financial, and social services into a single smart card, reducing the need for multiple identification documents.
In the initial pilot phase in Port Said, the card has been used to access subsidized food commodities, bread, and postal payment services. The project is being rolled out gradually across different governorates based on system readiness. While the card serves as a replacement for traditional ration cards in areas where it has been implemented, the transition is not yet nationwide.
Key services integrated into the card include the distribution of subsidized goods and bread, comprehensive health insurance access, and various financial transactions such as depositing or receiving funds, making payments via point-of-sale machines, and withdrawing cash from Egypt Post ATMs. To obtain the card, citizens must open a personal account with the National Post Authority and register their national ID and a mobile number registered in their name.
