Egypt Unified Card 2026 digital initiative

Overview

Egypt is implementing the Unified Card 2026 project as part of a national digital transformation strategy. The initiative, led by the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade in collaboration with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, aims to consolidate government, financial, and social services into a single smart card.

Key integrated services include the distribution of subsidized food and bread, comprehensive health insurance access, and various financial transactions such as depositing or receiving funds, making payments via point-of-sale machines, and withdrawing cash from Egypt Post ATMs. To ensure services reach intended beneficiaries, the cards will feature biometric verification.

Citizens can obtain the card free of charge by opening a personal account with the National Post Authority and registering their national ID and a mobile number. Following processing, users receive a text message indicating collection locations, which may include post offices, supply offices, health insurance units, or governorate headquarters. While the project has seen pilot implementation in Port Said, the rollout is being conducted gradually across different governorates based on system readiness.
