Egypt Ministry of Petroleum expands exploration and gas production

Egypt's Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has announced strategic plans to expand exploration and increase domestic production of oil and gas. During recent activities, Minister Karim Badawi emphasized the goal of localizing 20 new petrochemical products and expanding exploration efforts in Upper Egypt and the Western Desert.

In the 2025-2026 fiscal year, the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation reported significant milestones, including 63 new discoveries—comprising 48 oil and 15 gas finds. Exploration and production investments reached approximately $4.5 billion. The ministry also secured eight new exploration agreements with a minimum investment value of $377 million.

To encourage further investment, the ministry is conducting seismic surveys in the Western Desert covering up to 111,000 square kilometers. Additionally, the ministry highlighted that settling dues with investment partners has been a critical step in restoring investor confidence and facilitating new projects in gas field development and exploration.
