Egyptian petroleum sector fiscal and production updates

Overview

The Egyptian petroleum sector has reported significant operational and financial results for the 2025/2026 fiscal year. The General Petroleum Company (GPC) achieved a record 12 petroleum discoveries, averaging 77,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day through the use of artificial intelligence, horizontal drilling, and hydraulic fracturing.

Financial and production highlights include Cooperation Petroleum reporting a 43% increase in net profits, fueled by a 610% surge in ship bunkering volumes. Petrofrich maintained an average production of 10,500 barrels of oil equivalent per day, increasing its remaining reserves to over 11 million barrels. In the refining sector, Assiut Oil Refining (ASORC) produced products valued at approximately $3 billion and is developing a third distillation unit to nearly double its annual refining capacity from 4.5 million to 9.5 million tons of crude.

Infrastructure developments include the Petroleum Pipelines Company transporting over 8.2 billion ton-km of products through its 6,300-kilometer network, alongside plans to expand the Sokhna Terminal capacity.

As part of the ongoing fiscal reviews, the General Petroleum Corporation finalized results for Petroshahd Petroleum and Hamra Oil. CEO Salah Abdel Karim reiterated the necessity of balancing increased production with cost reduction and strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards. Petroshahd reported a daily production rate of 7,730 barrels of oil and condensates and was recognized with an Operational Excellence Award for its risk visualization project. Strategic priorities for the sector continue to focus on expanding exploration, increasing well drilling, and investing in renewable energy to reduce diesel consumption and emissions.
