Egypt and World Food Programme launch joint food security plan

Egypt’s Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade and the World Food Programme (WFP) have launched a joint action plan scheduled to run from July 2026 to July 2027. The partnership aims to enhance food security, nutrition, and market monitoring capabilities through advanced data analysis.

A central component of this initiative is the development of a comprehensive market efficiency index. This tool will allow the ministry to move beyond simple price tracking to monitor commodity availability, regional price disparities, and product quality. This data-driven approach is intended to help the government detect market imbalances early and intervene more effectively.

The agreement also includes the creation of an integrated system for managing citizen complaints, enabling the ministry to track issues from initial receipt to final resolution. Additionally, the two organizations will collaborate on specialized training programs regarding food security indicators and the analysis of the costs associated with obtaining a healthy, balanced diet to better understand the relationship between food prices and household purchasing power.
