Egypt Ministry of Supply expands food discount initiative for Ramadan

Egypt's Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, Sherif Farouk, has announced an expansion of the national initiative to reduce the prices of essential goods in preparation for Ramadan. The initiative currently offers discounts ranging from 15% to 25% compared to external market prices.

To increase accessibility, the number of participating outlets will expand from 284 to 400 across the country. The Minister also directed the General Authority for Supply Commodities to secure the necessary funding for the Holding Company for Food Industries to ensure sufficient stocks and maintain the initiative for six months, lasting until March 2027.

Plans are underway to add new items to the current list of 30 commodities to meet specific Ramadan needs. Additionally, the ministry will coordinate the establishment of “Ahlan Ramadan” exhibitions and stalls in various governorates to further distribute discounted products.
