Egypt Ministry of Supply regulates bread prices and wheat supply
Egypt’s Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, Sherif Farouk, has held consecutive meetings with representatives from the General Division of Bakeries and the Grain Industry Chamber to stabilize the free flour and bread market. The discussions focused on ensuring the availability of production inputs, such as wheat and flour, to meet the needs of bakeries and food industries like pasta and confectionery.
To enhance supply stability and transparency, the Ministry agreed to make wheat available periodically through the commodity exchange based on market demand. This initiative aims to proactively manage production variables and ensure a steady supply of bread and fino bread for citizens.
Furthermore, the Ministry reaffirmed that current prices and weights for free and fino bread remain governed by Ministerial Decree No. 5 of 2026. All bakeries are required to strictly adhere to these regulated weights and prices, which must be clearly displayed at their storefronts.
