Egypt modernizes drainage pipe production for Water 2.0 initiative

Egypt's Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Hani Sewilam, is overseeing the modernization of drainage pipe manufacturing plants as part of the Water 2.0 initiative. The project focuses on transitioning to more environmentally friendly production methods by replacing polyvinyl chloride (PVC) with high-density polyethylene (HDPE).

This shift aims to support the national economy and green transition, as HDPE is fully recyclable, more durable, and more resistant to weather conditions. The transition is expected to increase the productivity of field pipe production by up to 16%.

Efforts are currently underway to upgrade production lines at several facilities, including plants in Aga, Tanta, and Damanhour. These upgrades include installing new production lines for various pipe diameters and implementing recycling components to promote a circular economy. These measures are intended to mitigate the impact of global raw material price fluctuations and ensure the continuity of national drainage projects.
