Egypt President Sisi targets 45% renewables with new solar, wind and storage projects

President Abdel Fattah el‑Sisi met with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Renewable Energy Minister Mahmoud Osbat to review progress on Egypt’s renewable‑energy programme. The discussion covered more than 100 grid‑strengthening projects in the second phase and the rollout of solar and wind capacity aimed at raising the share of renewables in the national energy mix to 45% by 2027.

Key installations highlighted were the 500 MW Obelisk solar plant and its 200 MWh battery storage system, now linked to the grid, with a second 500 MW unit slated for connection in the coming weeks. Officials also detailed the Energy Valley project in Minya—a 1.7 GW photovoltaic complex supported by 4 GWh of battery storage distributed across several governorates. The president emphasized regular monitoring of projects, collaboration with both local and foreign private investors, and expanding storage capacity to stabilize the grid and maximize renewable returns.
