Egypt reports rising BRICS trade and record remittances
Egypt has seen significant growth in its economic indicators, driven by increased trade with BRICS nations and record-breaking remittances from citizens working abroad.
During the first half of 2026, Egypt's trade volume with BRICS countries reached approximately $36.7 billion, up from $29.3 billion during the same period in 2025. While Egyptian exports to the group totaled $6.6 billion, imports from BRICS members rose to $30.2 billion. Saudi Arabia was the top importer from Egypt at $1.8 billion, followed by the United Arab Emirates at $1.7 billion. China remained the largest exporter to Egypt, accounting for $10.4 billion in imports.
Additionally, remittances from Egyptians living abroad reached a record $47.3 billion for the 2025/2026 fiscal year. This figure exceeded forecasts from the International Monetary Fund, which had predicted $39.3 billion, and Morgan Stanley, which estimated $46 billion. This influx of foreign currency contributed to a rise in Egypt's net international reserves, which reached $57.2 billion by the end of August 2026.
