IMF Approves $3.9 Billion in New Funding for Egypt
The International Monetary Fund reached staff‑level agreements with Egypt covering the fifth and sixth reviews of its Extended Fund Facility and Resilience and Sustainability Facility, unlocking roughly $2.3 billion in immediate financing. A further staff‑level deal on the seventh review would release about $1.64 billion, bringing total new disbursements to approximately $3.9 billion.
The funding is conditioned on reforms such as exchange‑rate unification, fiscal tightening with subsidy reductions, private‑sector growth measures, reserve accumulation and implementation of a State Ownership Policy. While the IMF noted Egypt’s economy showed resilience, it warned that regional tensions and inflation risks remain.
