Egypt signs agreement with Gotion, China Energy Engineering and AMEA Power for 3 GWh battery plant

Egypt's Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy announced on June 4 that Gotion High‑Tech, China Energy Engineering Group (CEEC) and UAE‑based AMEA Power have signed a cooperation agreement to build a 3 GWh lithium‑iron‑phosphate battery manufacturing base and a 1.5 GWh standalone energy‑storage power station. Gotion will supply battery cells and system technology, CEEC will construct supporting facilities, and AMEA Power will provide investment and liaise with the government. Preparatory work is slated to begin in Q3 2026, with the plant expected to be operational within 18‑24 months.

Separate EPC contracts were also signed for two utility‑scale battery‑energy‑storage system (BESS) projects – a 500 MWh project at Zafarana and a 1 000 MWh project at Benban – giving a combined capacity of 1.5 GWh. The contracts were signed in the presence of Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy. These projects form part of Egypt’s target to reach 14 320 MWh of battery storage by 2028.
