Egypt signs partnership with China's SANY to build first wind turbine factory

On 27 June 2026, China’s SANY Group and Egypt’s Electricity Transmission Company and New and Renewable Energy Authority signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish the country’s first wind‑turbine manufacturing plant in the Suez Canal Economic Zone and to develop a 2,000‑MW wind farm in the North Gulf of Suez. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Electricity Minister Mahmoud Esmat.

The plant will produce turbines and components for domestic projects and for export to African and Middle‑Eastern markets, with financing and revenue in local currency. The agreement is intended to localise renewable‑energy technology, create jobs, reduce reliance on imports and position Egypt as a regional clean‑energy hub, while deepening Sino‑Egyptian industrial cooperation.
