Egypt steps up food safety inspections in South Sinai, Kafr El Sheikh

Egyptian authorities intensified food‑safety inspections across two governorates. In South Sinai, health officials inspected 23 food outlets, issued 52 reports and seized more than three tonnes of unsafe or unverified food and beverages, including 631 kg and 1,979 L of products deemed unfit for human consumption. Legal action against the violators is pending.

In Kafr El Sheikh, the governorate’s supply department conducted a parallel crackdown, confiscating large quantities of subsidised petroleum and unidentified food items: 31,000 L of solar fuel, 125 L of subsidised gasoline, 3,500 bottles of unknown‑origin juice, 942 L of counterfeit paint, 500 kg of unknown‑source pickles, 600 kg of dairy products, 300 kg of poultry, and various other unlabelled or expired goods. The operations were directed by Health Minister Khaled Abdel Gafar and the respective governors, with further legal proceedings to be taken.
