Egypt supply directorates intensify market inspections in Port Said and Qalyubia
Supply and internal trade directorates in Egypt have intensified market inspections in Port Said and Qalyubia to ensure commodity availability and combat commercial fraud.
In Port Said, regulatory campaigns during August 2026 resulted in 176 violations being recorded. These included issues with expired goods, products without invoices, and failure to display prices. Authorities also managed the distribution of over 2,384 tons of flour and 63,705 gas cylinders. Additionally, 37 food samples were submitted for laboratory testing to ensure compliance with standard specifications.
In Qalyubia, field inspections led to 89 violations against municipal bakeries and commercial activities. Key findings included the production of underweight or substandard bread, improper hygiene in dough-making tools, and failure to display prices. Notably, authorities seized 175 ration cards that were being held collectively at a bakery in an attempt to illegally misappropriate citizen subsidies. All recorded violations have been referred to the Public Prosecution.
