Egypt to implement 2026 winter time transition in October
Egypt is scheduled to transition to winter time in 2026 in accordance with Law No. 24 of 2023. The summer time period will conclude on Thursday, October 29, 2026, with the clocks being set back by 60 minutes at midnight. This change will officially take effect on Friday, October 30, 2026, moving the time from 12:00 midnight to 11:00 PM.
The transition affects various commercial and service sectors. General shops and malls are regulated to close at 10:00 PM on weekdays, with extensions to 11:00 PM on Thursdays, Fridays, and public holidays. Restaurants, cafes, and bazaars typically operate until 12:00 midnight on weekdays, extending to 1:00 AM during weekends and holidays.
Most modern smartphones and internet-connected devices are expected to update the time automatically via network settings. However, manual adjustments may be required for certain electronic devices and traditional watches to ensure accuracy during the transition.
