Egypt seasonal time change
Overview
Egypt is scheduled to transition from daylight saving time to winter time in late October 2026. Following Law No. 24 of 2023, daylight saving time remains in effect from the last Friday of April until the end of the last Thursday of October each year. The transition will conclude at the end of Thursday, October 29, 2026. Starting at the first minute of Friday, October 30, 2026, the country will implement winter time by setting clocks back 60 minutes at midnight (moving from 12:00 AM to 11:00 PM). This policy is intended to rationalize electricity and energy consumption while maximizing the utility of daylight hours. Under Law No. 34 of 2023, the shift aims to reduce reliance on artificial lighting during shorter winter days and better align daily schedules for schools, workplaces, and transportation with seasonal daylight patterns. As the transition approaches, the Egyptian Ministry of Transport, through the National Authority for Tunnels, has updated operating schedules for the three metro lines, the Light Rail Transit (LRT), and the East Nile Monorail. For the metro, first trains from stations such as Helwan, El Marg El Gedida, Shubra El Kheima, and El Mounib are scheduled for 5:15 AM. The LRT will see its first train from Adly Mansour toward Arts and Culture at 6:00 AM, and the first train from Badr toward Adly Mansour at 6:01 AM. New Obour services will begin at 6:38 AM. Final LRT services from Adly Mansour are scheduled for 11:20 PM, with Badr and New Obour services concluding between 11:30 PM and 11:47 PM. To ensure uninterrupted service, the Egyptian National Railways has placed emergency and maintenance teams on high alert while reviewing schedules for northern and southern lines.
