Egypt to implement winter time on October 29
Egypt will officially transition to winter time on the night of Thursday, October 29, 2026. In accordance with Law No. 24 of 2023, clocks will be set back by 60 minutes at midnight, moving from 12:00 AM to 11:00 PM.
The Egyptian National Railways has announced preparations to ensure uninterrupted train services across the country during the transition. The authority is reviewing operating schedules for both northern and southern lines and has placed emergency and maintenance teams on high alert to manage the change in timing.
The shift to seasonal time changes also affects the operating hours of public shops, commercial centers, and restaurants. While most establishments will follow winter closing times, essential services such as pharmacies, bakeries, and grocery stores are exempt to ensure continuous service for citizens. The seasonal time system is utilized by the state to rationalize energy consumption and optimize daylight hours.
