Egypt to receive €1.5 billion EU aid tranche
Egypt's foreign minister Badr Abdelatty announced that the European Union will disburse a €1.5 billion payment in the coming days, marking the first of the two remaining installments of the €3 billion still owed under a €5 billion macro‑financial assistance programme. The final tranche is expected by early autumn.
The aid is part of a broader €7.4 billion financing agreement signed in 2024, which also includes €5 billion of concessional loans to support Egypt's economy. To date the EU has already transferred €2 billion, with two €1 billion installments delivered in January 2025 and earlier this year.
