Hani Sewilam, Egypt’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, held a meeting to evaluate the performance of the water management system in the Faiyum Governorate following the recent peak water demand season. The review covered various infrastructure projects, including the cleaning of canals and drains, maintenance of lifting stations, and the replacement of bridges and sluices.
Key achievements noted include the construction of a 150-meter retaining wall on the Bahr Youssef canal and the implementation of covered drainage projects. The Minister emphasized the need to maintain system readiness to ensure water is provided in the required quantities and quality for agricultural needs.
Minister Sewilam instructed the central administration in Faiyum to develop long-term plans to address water challenges within one month. He also ordered the installation of telemetry measurement points at specific locations, including the Qate' canal and Ibshaway canal, and directed the development of a monitoring application that incorporates satellite imagery to track cleaning activities.
