Egyptian Agriculture Minister Alaa Farouk issues urgent directives to cut food prices

Egyptian Agriculture and Land Reclamation Minister Alaa Farouk announced a set of urgent and reinforced directives for all ministry leaders, heads of agencies and directorates. The measures implement presidential tasks issued by President Abdel Fattah el‑Sisi during the launch of the strategic leadership, aiming to create a rapid national programme that reduces citizens’ living costs, stabilises prices of essential goods and secures supply chains.

Key actions include a comprehensive inventory of unused ministry assets – land, buildings and facilities – to be converted into new sales outlets and modern markets, coordinated with the Future Egypt sustainable‑development agency and the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade. Production in the meat, poultry, dairy, crop and livestock sectors is to be doubled, while a ban on middlemen will channel products directly from farms to consumers. The directorate for cooperatives will monitor field performance around the clock to ensure strict compliance.

The overall goal is to boost domestic food supply, strengthen food‑security infrastructure and keep staple prices affordable for the Egyptian population.
