Egyptian authorities seize tons of unregulated oil and meat in food safety raids

Authorities in Egypt have conducted extensive regulatory campaigns across multiple governorates to combat the trade of unregulated and unsafe food products.

In Qalyubia, specifically in Banha, officials seized approximately 4 tons of cooking oil of unknown origin from an unlicensed facility. During the operation, investigators discovered that a tanker used for transporting the oil was originally designated for petroleum products, violating health and safety regulations. No documentation or invoices were available to prove the oil's source or expiration.

In Fayoum, supply and internal trade directorate officials seized 8 tons of cooking oil with no production data or expiration dates. Additionally, 260 kilograms of minced meat were confiscated after inspections revealed foul odors, discoloration, and physical changes indicating the meat was unfit for human consumption. The raids also uncovered 1,288 packages of unregistered agricultural fertilizers. Authorities issued multiple violations against workers lacking health certificates and continue to monitor markets, bakeries, and gas stations to ensure compliance with health and pricing regulations.
