Egyptian Canal Water Authority launches solar‑powered lighting for stations

Ahmed Ramadan, head of the Canal Water and Sanitation Company, announced the start of installing and operating solar‑powered lighting columns at water‑treatment and sewage‑lifting stations in the Suez Canal governorates of Suez, Ismailia and Port Said. The project has already switched on solar lights at the Abu Suweir and Future water stations, the Future sewage‑lifting plant, and the Tel Al‑Kabir intake, with further installations at the Tel Al‑Kabir treatment plant and the Al‑Qantara West plant, each equipped with 60 kW solar arrays and smart meters to offset electricity consumption and reduce operating costs.

The initiative is part of a broader plan to modernise the water and sewage infrastructure by gradually adopting clean energy, improving efficiency and cutting reliance on conventional power sources across the three canal provinces.
