Egyptian equities see record highs and volatility amid stock rotation

The Egyptian stock market has experienced significant volatility and rotation between large-cap and small-cap shares. The EGX30 benchmark reached a fresh record of 55,854.74 points on August 16, driven by a rally in blue-chip stocks such as Telecom Egypt, Fawry, and e-finance. This movement was supported by an impending EGX30 index reshuffle expected in September, which often triggers portfolio rebalancing.

However, the momentum shifted on August 17, as the EGX30 retreated by 0.79% to 55,415.07 points due to profit-taking in large-cap stocks. During this session, smaller stocks continued to advance, with the EGX70 Equal Weight Index gaining 0.63%.

A major block trade involving 18.45 million shares of Commercial International Bank (CIB), valued at approximately EGP 2.46 billion, occurred during a period of high investor activity. While non-Arab foreign investors recorded net purchases of EGP 13.27 billion, the CIB transaction added complexity to the interpretation of foreign flow data.
