Egyptian Governorates Crack Down on Illegal Food Production

Authorities in Egypt's Qalyubia governorate seized an unlicensed confectionery plant producing "Moulid" sweets. Inspectors confiscated 18,400 packaged sweets and 650 kg of production supplies, including oil, cocoa and coconut, before the products could reach the market. A shop was also found with 23 packs of expired biscuits, all handed over to the prosecutor.

In the neighboring Fayoum governorate, a broader market sweep uncovered 750 kg of titanium dioxide, a food‑grade additive banned for use in juices, along with 4,830 packs of unregistered cigarettes, 13 sacks of fortified flour, 1.35 kg of tartrazine and 160 kg of unknown cooking oil. The seized items were recorded and forwarded to security agencies for legal action. Both campaigns are part of ongoing provincial efforts to enforce food‑safety standards and protect public health.
