Egypt food safety raids seize tons of expired goods

Authorities across several Egyptian governorates have intensified inspections of markets and food facilities to combat the sale of unsafe products and ensure food security.

In Giza, officials seized 25 tons of cooking oil and 36,000 bottles of energy drinks of unknown origin. These items have been referred to the Public Prosecution for legal action, with many seizures facing destruction to prevent them from re-entering the market.

In Assiut, supply and trade directorates issued 307 violations against bakeries and markets. Seizures included 10 kilograms of meat slaughtered outside official slaughterhouses and 10 sacks of subsidized flour intended for the black market. Additionally, 280 violations were recorded at local bakeries for issues such as weight discrepancies and hygiene failures.

In Gharbia, veterinary medicine directorates and supply investigators seized 6 tons of spoiled poultry carcasses and animal fats in El Mahalla El Kubra. In Tanta, inspections led to the seizure of 580 kilograms of meat and food products unfit for human consumption. Local governors have emphasized that these continuous raids are essential to protecting public health and ensuring the integrity of the food supply.
