Egypt expands health insurance to 7 million and cracks down on food market violations

The governor of Minya announced that the comprehensive health insurance system is ready to launch a pilot serving about 7 million residents, completing construction and equipment upgrades at targeted health facilities. The rollout follows presidential directives to broaden health coverage and improve rural medical services.

In the neighboring Sharqia governorate, officials reported the seizure of 775 kg of subsidized flour and 1,255 L of petroleum products, issuing 75 supply‑related violation reports. Inspectors targeted bakeries and fuel stations during Eid‑Al‑Adha checks, enforcing price and quality regulations to protect consumers.
