Egyptian Journalists Syndicate moves to combat fraudulent entities

The Egyptian Journalists Syndicate, led by President Khaled El-Balshy, has announced a series of measures to combat fraudulent entities and individuals impersonating journalists. The syndicate is establishing a permanent committee to monitor these illegal organizations, receive complaints, and pursue legal action against those issuing unauthorized membership cards.

To protect the profession, the syndicate is requesting that the Ministry of Interior and the Civil Status Department refrain from listing ‘journalist’ or ‘editor’ on national ID cards without an official syndicate stamp. Additionally, the board is coordinating with the National Social Insurance Authority to review membership insurance statuses and with Egyptian universities to verify the academic qualifications of all registered members.

The syndicate has also referred five members to the registration committee for potential removal from the official rolls due to failure to meet membership requirements. The board emphasized that the syndicate is the sole legal representative of Egyptian journalists under the constitution and urged all public and private sectors to avoid dealing with unauthorized entities.
