Egyptian market inspections seize expired foods, fuel and cigarettes in Beni Suef and Fayoum

The Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade carried out extensive inspection campaigns in the Egyptian governorates of Beni Suef and Fayoum. In Beni Suef, inspectors issued more than 70 market violations, seized spoiled meat, frozen poultry, fish, butter, expired snack packs, 222 packs of unmarked cigarettes, 100 domestic gas cylinders, and a litre of fuel from an unauthorized pump.

In Fayoum, the campaigns resulted in 129 violations and the seizure of 3,500 pieces of expired cheese, half a ton of subsidised agricultural fertilizer, 150 packs of unknown cigarettes, and numerous sacks of subsidised wheat flour. Inspectors also fined municipal bakeries for producing undersized bread, lacking proper scales, and failing to display prices or issue ration vouchers.

Both operations were aimed at tightening control over food and fuel markets, preventing the sale of substandard or unregistered goods, and protecting consumer rights.
