Egyptian Minister Manal Awad reviews waste and development projects in Aswan and Qena

Egyptian Minister of Local Development and Environment Dr. Manal Awad met with Governor Amr Lashine of Aswan to assess the execution of key development and service projects. The discussion covered solid‑waste management, street cleaning, land‑allocation procedures, removal of illegal structures, and progress on the 2026‑2027 investment plan, emphasizing road paving, lighting and infrastructure upgrades.

Awad also held talks with Governor Mustafa al‑Bablay of Qena, focusing on the "Green Qena City" initiative funded by the Global Environment Facility and the Egyptian government. The plan aims to turn agricultural residues such as sugarcane and banana waste into organic fertilizer, animal feed, and construction materials, while promoting circular‑economy jobs. Additional topics included environmental compliance for sugar and paper industries, expansion of jojoba cultivation, use of treated wastewater, and the development of a solid‑waste treatment plant to boost recycling and create green jobs.
