Egypt expands land, water, housing & education projects

Entities: Hayat Karima initiative · Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities · Egyptian Government · Rashid Branch · Abdel Fattah al‑Sisi

Overview

Throughout 2026, Egypt’s housing, water, and rural development ministries have accelerated infrastructure, land allocation, and social housing programs. Previous efforts included the Beit Al-Watan project, the Hayat Karima rural program, and the introduction of AI-driven digital services and tax-exempt status for the Social Housing Fund.

In August, Housing Minister Randa Al-Menshawi expanded oversight to include land regularization in New Shorouk and New Obour. In New Shorouk, officials are monitoring road and utility infrastructure to ensure integration with existing urban areas. In New Obour, efforts focus on accelerating land legalization and combating building violations. Infrastructure projects in New Obour include the construction of two sewage lifting stations with a combined capacity of 100,000 cubic meters per day, 35 kilometers of main sewage lines, and a drinking water lifter with a capacity of 100,000 cubic meters per day, alongside a strategic reservoir in the Al-Qadisiyah area.

Water resources management also intensified as Water Minister Hani Suweim launched the "Nile Regulation Project." This initiative aims to protect water resources and restore river capacity by removing illegal structures; recent operations cleared 37 structures in the Shubra-Helwan sector and 518 buildings from the Rashid branch.

Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly has also conducted inspections in the Matrouh Governorate. This includes overseeing the East Matrouh electricity substation, designed to support rising loads and the El Dabaa nuclear power plant, and the Al-Alum Roum development area, a partnership with Qatari Diar. Additionally, the Prime Minister reviewed plans for a smart government services complex in Marsa Matrouh and visited the "Al-Azima Center" to monitor the National Strategy for Combating Drugs.
